The 1922-1923 academic year is significant to the Woodstown Theatre Department as it marks the founding of the Wooodstown Music Club on Dec. 7, 1922. This group introduced Woodstown to what is known today as “musical theatre.” In 1923, they produced an original showcase called “Princess Chrysanthemum,” and in 1924, the Music Club was reorganized and performed its first Operetta. This was also the first year the Junior Class performed its own play, a tradition that continued into the 1970s.

On Feb. 14-15, 1924, the Music Club produced its first full-length Operetta, the first of its kind produced on the Woodstown High School stage, and the first piece of musical theatre produced in Woodstown. The Music Club operated into the late 1920s. A musical-play would not be performed again at Woodstown High School until 1984 by the Drama Club with “Babes in Arms.”
